  Veterinary Technician Student Externship Program
   
 

Zoo Atlanta offers an externship opportunity each year for a Veterinary Technician in his or her final year of an accredited program. The externship must be part of the required curriculum and count towards graduation credits. This program is voluntary and no stipend is available.

The program is designed for students who wish to acquire experience working in a clinical setting with a zoological collection and will offer hands on opportunities to work with a wide range of species. The zoo veterinarians and the senior veterinary technician supervise this position. Anesthesia, restraint, sample collection, and laboratory techniques with exotic animals will be covered.

Dates and durations of the externship are flexible; however, a minimum of six weeks of 40-hour/ week is required. Application requirements include a curriculum vita, statement of intent/purpose, time period requested, and a recommendation by a faculty member. An interview either in person or by phone with the senior veterinary technician is also required. The application material should be sent at least 3 months in advance to:
